FAQs
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions, and that's completely normal. Whether you are new therapy, have gone in the past, or are familiar with the process, it's important to address any questions you have to help you feel comfortable. Below are some of the questions I hear most often. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to reach out or set up your free consultation.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I am currently in-network with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Aetna.
If I am not in-network with your insurance, you may be able to use your out-of-network benefits. I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance to use your out-of-network benefits.
Why might someone choose not to use their health insurance for therapy?
Using health insurance can make therapy more affordable, and I'm happy to work with clients who have insurance plans I'm in-network with. However, some clients choose to pay privately for a variety of personal reasons.
When insurance is billed, a mental health diagnosis is generally required in order for services to be covered. Information such as your diagnosis, dates of service, and treatment plans may become part of your insurance record. While this information is protected by privacy laws, some people prefer to keep their mental health care separate from their insurance records.
Choosing private pay may also offer greater flexibility. Insurance companies sometimes place limits on the type, frequency, or length of treatment they will cover. Paying out of pocket allows you and your therapist to make decisions about your care based on your needs rather than your insurance benefits.
Some clients also choose private pay because they have a high deductible, are using out-of-network benefits, or simply value the additional privacy and flexibility it provides.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes! I offer both in-person sessions in Rochester, NY and telehealth appointments for clients located anywhere in New York State. If you want to come in person sometimes and do virtual other times that is totally fine too! I know life doesn't always make it easy to get out of the house and to an appointment, I am flexible with switching to virtual last minute if needed.
How often will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions. I find this helps us both get in the groove a little bit better as we get to know each other and start to make some progress. As progress is made, some prefer to transition to every other week or monthly maintenance sessions. We'll decide together what schedule best supports your goals.
Do you work with teens?
Do you work with couples?
Yes. I provide couples counseling with a focus on:
-
Fertility and family building
-
Pregnancy and postpartum planning and adjustment
-
Communication
-
Parenting transitions
-
Strengthening connection during major life changes
Do I have to be pregnant or postpartum to work with you?
Not at all! While perinatal mental health is a specialty, I also work with adults and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, and life transitions.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your history, your goals, and any questions you have. There's no pressure to tell your entire life story during the first appointment, we go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can request an appointment for either an initial appointment or a phone consultation directly through my website or contact me by email or the contact form. If you're unsure whether we're a good fit or have questions, you're welcome to reach out with questions before scheduling or start with a phone consultation. If you just want to get started feel free to schedule an initial appointment.
I Requested an Appointment Through Your Website—Now What?
Here's what you can expect next:
1. I'll review your appointment request.
I'll either approve your requested appointment time, reach out with any questions I may have, or suggest an alternative time if your requested slot isn't available.
2. You'll receive access to the SimplePractice Client Portal.
Once your appointment is confirmed, I'll send you an invitation to the secure SimplePractice portal. There, you'll find your intake paperwork, consent forms, practice policies, and a few additional questionnaires to help me get to know you before we meet.
3. Complete your paperwork before your first session.
Please complete all forms prior to your appointment so we can spend our time together focusing on you, rather than paperwork.
4. Reach out anytime.
If you have questions before your appointment—whether about insurance, paperwork, or what to expect—please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm happy to help.
I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey.
Yes! I provide therapy for teens navigating anxiety, depression, school stress, friendships, family changes, identity development, emotional regulation, and the many transitions that come with adolescence. I often involve parents and caregivers in sessions either jointly, or parent only sessions to help further support your teen and their goals.
